Poem for the Moon

Please take no offense to
What I’m about to say.
Certain things I have to do
To see Sun the next day.

You see, if you ask me,
She doesn’t like who I’ve become.
A woe is me caught up in we
And you, not a clue what you’ve done.

It’s not your fault, I promise you,
You can’t control my tide.
You’re pulling me, she’s pulling too;
The stars can choose, I can’t decide.

But so naïve are stars, you see,
Shining only in the night.
They’ve caught your eye, like me and she,
So blind we are by warmth and light.

You draw me in with quiet songs,
Lullabies for restless waves.
On sand and shore where I belong,
But my mind is lost in quite a daze.

As rivers flow to oceans wide
And clouds find comfort in your eyes,
To you, I see, the sky will guide,
To you will be where peace will lie.

The darkest side I found you on
Says many things about you, dear.
Restless times between dusk and dawn
Is when I thought you’d be most near.

I stretch my arms to pull you closer,
But darkness makes it hard to see.
The thought of we becomes a blur
As I am drowning in the seas.

And Sun, you see, found her way to me,
Pulled me out when I could barely breathe
And placed the earth beneath my feet.
It’s not your fault, please believe.

Time to myself is far past due.
You’re pulling me, but I’m pushing you.
I’ll watch you fall out of view,
And the sky will fade back to blue.

She’s shining bright, my only sun,
Breaking through incessant clouds.
A better time has just begun,
A peaceful mind I have found.

I’m leaving now, don’t say goodbye;
I need this to be easy.
The stars will be right by your side.
I hope in time you can forgive me.
